A basic guide to... Starcraft 2 - part 1

Hey everyone!

This has been a far busier month than I expected. I finally finished the review in the beginning of the month and boy, have I slacked after that! Anyway, I have been working on The Newspaper of Gaming but have not finished it so in order to have something else posted here on the blog I wanted to start a new series of posts called "A basic guide to". In "A basic guide to" I go through games that one might want to learn more about. You will get the gist so I will just get started.

Starcraft 2 - The sequel to Starcraft - was released by Blizzard Entertainment in 2010. The first Starcraft game and its expansion (Brood war) was popular for a long time, especially as an e-sport, and is still played today.

Starcraft 2 is an RTS (real time strategy) game. This means that your opponent (whether it's the computer or a person) will play the game simultaneously and not in turns (as in for example chess). Actually, Starcraft 2 have been compared to chess without the turn based system.

So how do you play Starcraft 2. Well, first you must choose your race.

Protoss

Zerg

Terran

or random which will give you either of the three if you don't know what you want to play! All three races are relatively different even though the game itself works pretty much the same no matter which race you've chosen.

When you load into the game all you have is a base and a few workers. The workers will gather minerals for you in order for you to build buildings that produce an army and upgrades for them. It is not the person with the biggest army that wins though. It is all about being strategic with the army you have and trying to harass bases when the opponents army is somewhere etc etc.

And that's all I have for the first part of a basic guide to Starcraft 2 - part 1. A more elaborate explanation will be found in part 2!

Bye guys!
